Since you have a child, you are considered independent UNLESS your parents claim you and little guy as dependents on their taxes. Check with your financial aid office to be sure, but the consensus at my breakfast table at a college access conference this morning is what I said above.

I know this because half of the reason I got married was for financial aid because they’d never give it to me because my mom “made too much” although she didn’t really but she owned her own buisness so it looked like she did on paper
